This masterclass goes through the compliance regulations and protection measures set in place to maintain patient privacy. We first examine the fundamentals of HIPAA and distinct features of Protected Health Information (PHI) and Electronic Protected Health Information (ePHI) and show you how HIPAA applies to each. We, then, discuss the evolution of HIPAA especially during Covid-19. We explore the HIPAA Privacy Rule, Security Rule, Enforcement Rule and the individual rights they enumerate. We discuss the roles and responsibilities of covered entities and business associates in ensuring the responsible handling of PHI according to HIPAA regulations for maintaining PHI’s privacy and security.
