AI Steve, created by businessman Steve Endacott, competed in the Brighton Pavilion
constituency and suffered a decisive loss to the Green Party’s Sian Berry.
In a historic moment for the UK General Election, AI Steve, the first-ever AI candidate, made
its debut but garnered only 179 votes, failing to win over the electorate.
Created by businessman Steve Endacott, AI Steve ran in the Brighton Pavilion constituency,
where it was decisively defeated by the Green Party’s Sian Berry, who won by more than
28,000 votes, according to the BBC.
Frustrated with traditional politics, Steve Endacott, an independent candidate from Brighton,
entered the election. His company, Neural Voice, developed the AI persona “AI Steve,” which
was listed on the ballot.
AI Steve, designed to interact with locals on issues like LGBTQ rights, housing, bin
collection, and immigration, offered policy suggestions and gathered community input in
real-time. Despite this innovative approach, AI Steve struggled to gain voter support.
The Electoral Commission clarified that if AI Steve won, Endacott would serve as the
member of parliament, not the AI.
