The British Army’s Twitter account has been hacked and filled with tweets offering giveaways and contests where followers could win non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Following the cyberattack, the attacker began posting about NFTs with ape themes and making claims that the UK was preparing to strike Pakistan on its Twitter account and other social media accounts.

What are NFTs?

NFTs are tokens that may be used to signify ownership of one-of-a-kind items since they are cryptographic assets on a blockchain with unique identification codes and metadata that set them apart from one another. Click Here to know more about NFTs.

The British Army’s YouTube account has also been hacked and replaced with an account advertising a number of live broadcasts purporting to show an interview with Tesla creator Elon Musk on cryptocurrencies.

Although the group responsible for the cyberattacks is not yet identified, the embarrassing security lapse raises major questions for the army and raises the possibility that additional social media accounts might also be in danger.

According to a representative for the Army, “We are aware of a breach of the Army’s Twitter and YouTube accounts, and an investigation is under progress.”

Therefore, the World Cyber Security Forum advises prioritizing the cybersecurity of social media accounts since hackers continue to target social media of government agencies as one of their top targets due to the availability of sensitive data in abundance. It is essential to have cutting-edge cyber security programs and mechanisms in place to safeguard social media accounts and their data.
